I talk a lot.

I've been doing workshops and training sessions for a few years now. Here are some of my favorites, with brief descriptions.

Owning it: Reclaiming, Reframing, & Re-energizing 'the Movement'

This was a workshop at Creating Change 2009 in Denver. Co-presented with Gabe Javier.

Engaged participants in addressing the shortcomings of an assimilation-driven "gay" movement, with respect to power, privilege, and internalized oppression; contextualized assimilation within its historical context

Gabe and I led some structured activities, gave some (controversial) history, and facilitated some exciting discussions. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to disengage privilege from activism and fix everything. If only we'd had another half hour...

Schismata: Internalized Oppression, Privilege, and Love

This was a workshop at the 2008 Transgender Leadership Summit in the SF Bay Area.

Established framework for understanding internalized oppression in an intersectional social justice context; facilitated internal interrogation of internally held prejudices

This is pretty much my favorite workshop to run, because we get to talk about feelings.

Combustible Elements: Internalized Oppression and Privilege

This was a workshop at Creating Change 2008 in Detroit. I co-presented with Simon Aronoff and Lisbeth Melendez-Rivera.

based on some research I did linking internalized transphobia to externalized racism with white transpeople; discussed relationships between internalized and externalized oppressions, privilege, and power in the context of LGBT organizing and activism

This was an earlier version of the "Schismata" workshop above. It was a combination of discourse analysis, small group discussion, and feelings. I liked the feelings part best.
